Let’s talk about the Integrated Planning Development Process!
In our country, there are many government entities with different goals and objectives. But as the sphere of implementation, it’s up to the municipality to coordinate and integrate those goals while promoting social and economic development and putting the needs of the community first within a 5-year term. And how do we do that, you ask? Through the Integrated Development Plan!
IDPs (Integrated Development Plans) which are a strategic planning document used by municipalities. Essentially, they contain the vision, objectives, development goals, strategic plans, and actions needed to achieve those plans. The IDP also outlines the available resources to fund these plans and sets out what can be achieved in the short and long term. The IDP has a significant impact on the proposed budget of the municipality together with the monitoring of implemented projects through the SDBIP.
It’s important to note that IDPs are not just a platform to note community grievances, nor are they solely driven by one unit or department. In fact, IDPs are an integrated process that is legislated and has legal status on how a municipality should plan, and respond to all mandated requirements, while showing how they spend their money.
In addition, the IDP sets out spatially where these plans will be implemented, so it’s a critical tool in ensuring the municipality’s resources are being allocated effectively. Overall, IDPs play a significant role in shaping how our communities develop and grow, so it’s worth knowing more about them!
